Privacy Policy – Out Loud

The Out Loud text to speech application is provided by TreesWithLeaves, LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”). The name Out Loud (“application”, “service”) is used throughout this document and refers to our entire application platform including the mobile application “Out Loud Companion”, our Alexa skill “Out Loud”, and all of our web-based account, content, and application services including our Chrome extension. The term “hand-held device” refers to the mobile phone or tablet iOS device onto which you have installed the text to speech Out Loud mobile companion app. The term “Client App” refers to any Out Loud software installed or enabled on a user’s device. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before using our Out Loud application.

Device Storage & Content Management

Documents are stored and managed from your device not your Out Loud account.

Even if you are signed into the same Out Loud account, documents you create on one device do not show up on your other devices unless you copy them manually.

Your documents will remain visible and available on your device even after you log out of your Out Loud account. Users who wish to remove their documents from their device should delete them manually or remove the app from the device.

You can access your documents on your device without a connection to the internet.

Backups

Documents are not backed up unless you have enabled iCloud backup under

Settings - iCloud - iCloud Backup.

If you loose your device, your documents will be restored from this backup, however you will also loose any changes made to your document after this backup date.

Alexa Speaker Support

Any portion of your document you wish to hear read out loud through your Alexa speaker will be temporarily stored with the associated Out Loud account linked to your Out Loud Alexa Skill.

The Out Loud Alexa Skill service renders this stored text to speech and plays this portion back through your Alexa speaker. Stored text expires after 30 minutes and is permanently removed from our service within 48 hours.

Amazon Web Services

Out Loud uses network, data processing, and storage solutions provided by Amazon Web Services (“AWS”). Account creation, administration, content storage and delivery are all handled by AWS. Out Loud does not function without these services and all user data required by the application to function is shared with AWS. If you do not want your information shared with AWS, including personal identifiable information, please do not sign up for or otherwise use this application. AWS privacy policies can be reviewed at https://aws.amazon.com/privacy/.

Users who sign up for Out Loud from their mobile device are instructed to provide and confirm a working email address. We do not share this information with third parties other than Amazon Web Services. We require your email to administer your account. Users who wish to remove their email and other account information should uninstall our app from their mobile device by following the instructions found below under “Removing Account and User Supplied Data.”

Google Drive Integration with Google Sign-In

Users can optionally import documents managed through their Google Drive account. Out Loud uses Google Sign-In to facilitate access to your Google Drive. Out Loud stores this imported text directly on your mobile device running Out Loud Companion App. This text is then uploaded to our speech service provider, Amazon Web Services. Therefore, in order to turn your written content stored on Google Drive into speech, we need to share this written content with Amazon Web Services.

Analytics, “Cookies” and Personal Identifiable Information

It is possible that third party sites from which you download the Application or other applications on your device or computer may use cookies, tracking data, or otherwise collect personally identifiable information. You should, therefore, review applicable third-party privacy policies before using this Application.

For the purpose of authenticating user requests, Out Loud saves account details in the form of an encoded token issued by our third-party login provider Amazon Web Services. These tokens are stored on and managed by Out Loud’s app clients including our iOS app, Google Chrome extension, and Alexa Skill. Out Loud does not share these tokens or their encoded information with other third parties other than Amazon Web Services.

Authentication Cookies

For the purpose of authenticating user requests and exchanging Authentication Tokens with Amazon Web Services, Out Loud saves cookies by our third-party login provider Amazon Web Services.
